NEW: Export Garden, Add Custom Plants, and more

Happy groundhog day, native gardeners! I'll keep this quick. First of all, thank you to the almost 1000 people who signed up for the tool — so many more than I was expecting, I had to upgrade my email provider! Here are a few of the other changes I’ve just released to the app:

🌈 ✨ 🌺 New Features

  • Plant List in Sidebar: View the plants in your garden all in one list from the sidebar by clicking the checked list icon. From here you can see a high level indicator of their bloom times from the colored bar at the bottom of the card

  • Add Custom Plants: From the catalog panel, you can now click “+ Add Plant” and enter the details for a plant that I don’t have in my catalog yet. Bonus: you can also click “Suggest a correction” for any existing plant whose data doesn’t look right.

  • Export Plants / Garden: A lot of you asked for this one, and I can see why! Now there is an “Export” button in the main toolbar that creates a generated Garden Plan complete with an inventory list, plant breakdown and even a biological diversity report. You can see an example report here

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fix Magic Link: An apology here to those of you, especially my yahoo users, who encountered the issues with the magic link and sign up. There were a couple of changes I had to make (including changing my email provider) but I soft-launched this about 3-4 days ago and since then I haven’t seen any dropped link reports.

🌱📋❓What’s Next?

  • More Plants! I’m thrilled that so many of you have joined, especially from the West Coast and beyond, and I want you to know my next focus will be entirely on adding more key species from the regions that don’t have a lot of coverage in my catalog right now. I don’t expect this to take too long, so keep checking in and I’ll be sure to let you know when I hit a milestone with data ingestion

Thanks so much for sticking around; if you have any questions or feedback or anything, I genuinely love it when you guys email me. Have a happy February!!

🌸 🔦 P.S. Final Fun Fact / Plant Spotlight: The Coneflower

The coneflower (Echinacea) is like a fortress for pollinators. Not only does it produce compounds that deter herbivores and attract pollinators, but the spiky central cone has evolved to protect bees and butterflies while they pollinate from other grazers that may want to eat the flower whole. Incredible!
